Workshop in February

E-mail Print PDF

We have had to postpone our next workshop in February which was due to start at the beginning of the month.

It now starts on Monday the 15th and runs until Friday the 19th.

The plan is to build a 2.4m axial flux wind turbine for battery charging, working to Hugh Piggott's design. As usual all the tools and materials for the project will be provided during the workshop.

This is a popular workshop and tends to book up quickly so if you want to come along and learn how to make a working wind turbine then please book now. To ensure that everyone has a good experience given the available space we are keeping the numbers low and we only have room for 10 people. Already we have 4 bookings so there is only room for six more people at this time.

No previous experience is necessary in order to participate in the workshop. Obviously an interest in wind turbines is a good starting place and all the skills required will be taught on the course. There are lots of photos to see here on the website in the gallery so that you can gain an idea of what is involved in the build it yourself course.

Blades and Resin

E-mail Print PDF

I have just been coating a set of blades with resin for the last two days.
I am working on the lovely cedar blades made at the most recent workshop so they are for a 2.4m turbine. Really lovely cedar, laminated lengthways in two pieces and not a single knot to be found. One blade has a little weakness near the tip where it split a little, other that that they are a lovely set of blades.

We are using epoxy resin that has gone off a little so we didn't want to use it for casting however we decided to try it for coating the blade assembly and tail.
