Permitting for Small Wind Turbines Webcast
The American Wind Energy Association are having a Webcast on the Permitting for Small Wind Turbines. During the webcast they will discuss how local and state governments can create zoning rules to accommodate small wind turbines – those used to power individual homes, farms, and businesses - into communities.
One third of all planned small wind installations are obstructed by poor or nonexistent zoning rules. This Webcast will address the effects zoning regulations can have on small wind systems’ productivity and feasibility, and the key land-use issues to consider when writing an ordinance. We will address strategies that local and state governments can use to make sure clean energy is integrated safely and affordably into communities.
Other topics discussed will include:
1. The relevance of height, property setback, sound, and other key land-use issues
2. Red Herrings: Common misconceptions about the technology that should not be considered in planning
3. Why permitting for small wind turbines is in the public interest
4. A model ordinance developed by planning experts, industry, AWEA, consumer advocates, and others
The Webcast will be led by Ron Stimmel, Manager of Legislative Affairs and Small Systems at AWEA.
