Wind energy’s contribution to Ireland’s electricity supply continues to rise. By December 2008, a total of 77 wind farms were connected, bringing the total installed capacity for wind to 1,002 MW or 13.7% of total installed capacity.

Wind power displaced almost 1.28 million metric tonnes of CO2 emissions and primary energy imports of 215,000 metric tonnes of oil equivalent to a nation that is more than 90% dependent on imported energy supplies

Newsflash

Irish Seed Savers Association, Capparoe, Scarriff, Co. Clare

This is a hands-on, practical day. We will be installing a PV (photovoltaic) system to run a few small lights at the cob house. This will be a 12volt, off-grid system running LED lighting. First we will explain what the various components of the system are and how the system will work. Then it's outside where we will be installing the PV panel, running cables, installing the lights, placing batteries in their enclosure and wiring them up, connecting the system up and switching on the lights.
